Our Homebuilding Journey
Dovetail Homes was established by Brian Harris and his wife Claire in 1983. Their passion for property, combined with Brian's background in construction management, led them to undertake their first project - restoring a historic Grade 2 listed cottage in Fletching, East Sussex. This marked the beginning of their inspiring journey which began with small yet captivating new construction and renovation projects.
All designs were hand-drawn and Brian's personal touch was present in every aspect of the projects. Claire was not only an administrative pillar but also an essential part of project acquisition and design, contributing her expertise to make each endeavour unique. Over time the size and complexity of projects has increased, with 55 homes being created across the latest 6 developments.
In 2017, a new chapter began with the addition of Brian's son, Leon, to the team. Today, Leon and his wife Laura manage the day-to-day operations, while Brian and Claire continue to contribute their valuable experience.
To date, Dovetail Homes has created 80 exceptional properties across Sussex, 10 of which were awarded a prestigious Sussex Heritage Award. Our projects are always handled one at a time, to ensure our unwavering commitment and dedication to quality is upheld.
Southdown House – Lewes, East Sussex – Conversion of former Victorian music library into 11 apartments and 1 detached house.
Riplingham – Eastbourne, East Sussex – Conversion of a large Victorian mansion in The Meads area of Eastbourne into 9 apartments and 5 new-build houses within the grounds.
The Stud Farm Stables – Polegate, East Sussex - Conversion of Duke of Devonshire and Prince of Wales racing stables into 10 homes.
